Claim- ‘Sheikh Hasina stands third among the five most honest leaders of the world and Khaleda Zia is the third most corrupt leader in the world.
Fact- The rankings are completely baseless speculations.
Recently a post has been circulating on social media platforms saying “Here lies the difference ” with claims such as, ‘Sheikh Hasina stands third among the five most honest leaders of the world’ and others saying ‘the opposition leader Tarique Zia is the third most corrupt leader in the world. Newschecker-Bangladesh has found these claims to be False.
Fact check/ Verification
We ran some keyword searches and found the claim available on the internet since 2017. All these reports used some random references (websites’ names). None of these weblinks are credible news websites and some of them don’t even exist. See reports on ‘Sheikh Hasina ranked third most honest PM in the world’- Bangla Tribune, kaler Kantha, Bangla Insider, USA Online.
All these reports referred to ‘Peoples’ and Politics-an international research organization’ as the source of the viral information. When we went on searching for “peoples and politics”, we discovered that no such organizations exist. Instead, we found some random websites and names which are not relevant to those claims. The other claim says that The Zia family ranked third in the most corrupt leaders list. See reports here- Dhakatimes24, Bangla Insider.
In these reports, Dhakatimes24 did not refer to any source for this information. They quoted Dr Murad’s statement (former information minister). As per this report, Dr Murad said in a meeting that the Zia family ranked third among the most corrupt leaders. On the other hand, Bangla Insider in their report mentioned – Fox News Point, Ranker World Wide and Fox4 as their sources.
Among these references, Ranker.com is a free voting ranking system website that allows any random person to vote. It does not publish reports on the basis of any research or investigation. But the name of Zia’s family is not mentioned in the list of most corrupted leaders on Ranker.com.
Fox4 is a Texas-based portal and we did not find any such news on their websites. And nothing is available on the internet called Fox News Point.

Therefore, the viral reports about the ranking of the two leaders of Bangladesh are found to be a hoax.
