News Of Khaleda Zia’s Death Is False

A Tiktok video claiming that Khaleda Zia, Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, has died is being widely viewed on TikTok. Asking for help in spreading the news of Khaleda Zia’s death, the video mentions the time of death on November 19 at 7:40 pm. Newschecker has found the claim to be false.

The Tiktok video has been viewed 31,000 times and liked by 1974 TikTok users.

76-year-old BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital’s CCU in Dhaka since November 13. For many years, the Leader of the Opposition has been suffering from various complications including arthritis, diabetes, liver, kidney, lung, and eye problems.

On November 18, in a press conference at the national press club in Dhaka, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam informed that Khaleda Zia has been struggling for her life.

Newschecker contacted Sairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP chairperson’s press wing, to verify the claim. He told Newschecker, “The news of Begum Khaleda Zia’s death is false. She is being treated at the hospital and is alive. “

Demanding the release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her treatment abroad, a mass hunger strike has started at the BNP’s central office in Dhaka from 8 am on Saturday, November 20. The hunger strike has been continuing for past three days.

In April this year, Khaleda Zia tested positive for COVID 19. Although she recovered, she was admitted to the hospital twice due to various complications.
