Fact

Social media posts recently went viral claiming that a 300-year-old Shiva Lingam was discovered beneath a demolished house in Dhanmondi-32. A reverse image search of the Shiva Lingam image accompanying these posts disproved the claim. The image was found to have been circulating on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Pinterest, and Facebook since 2021, predating the Dhanmondi-32 demolition. Additionally, a similar image of the same Shiva Lingam was found on Reddit, labelled “The Gudimallam Linga.”

An image of the Shiva Lingam can be found on Reddit, along with its name and location.

Following this name, further searches led us to a report by The Print that included the same Shiva Lingam image. According to the report, this Shiva Lingam was from the Parashurameshwara Temple in Gudimallam village, Andhra Pradesh, India. Archaeologist T.P. Gopinath had recovered this artefact in 1903.

Thus, based on multiple posts and reports, it is confirmed that the Shiva Lingam in the viral images was not found during the demolition of Dhanmondi-32. Instead, it is an artefact over 300 years old, associated with the Gudimallam Temple in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Result: False
