Claim – Bangladesh police are forcibly making a Hindu child recite Kalima.
Fact – The police arrested the child in a drugged state, and the child is not Hindu.
Recently, a video was shared on the social media platform X (Twitter) claiming that a Hindu child in Bangladesh is being forcibly made to recite Kalima and converted to Islam. The Hindi caption on the video states, “Isn’t this coercion? In Bangladesh, a small Hindu child is being forcibly made to recite Kalima. The voice behind says — ‘La ilaha’, and police are standing in front. Everything is happening under the orders of a Maulvi.” Watch the video here.

To verify the authenticity of the viral video claiming a child was forcibly made to recite Kalima in Bangladesh, reverse image search using keyframes led to a report published on July 18, 2025, on a Bangladeshi news outlet’s website. The report contained scenes matching the viral video—Independent TV.
The report stated that a few days ago, a video went viral showing the OC (Officer-in-Charge) of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station, Matiur Rahman, holding a child’s hand. In the video, other officers were also pulling the child’s hair. After the video went viral, OC Matiur Rahman explained the incident, saying it happened on July 6, 2025, during an NCP leaders’ procession. The child was detained on suspicion of possessing drugs. The child was trying to join the NCP leaders, so the police had to remove him from there.
During the investigation, another Bangladeshi news outlet also published a report mentioning that during the NCP leadership procession in Chapainawabganj, a child was arrested on charges of drug possession and was subsequently removed by police. After the video went viral, Additional Superintendent of Police Wasim Firoz expressed regret over the method of removal and mentioned that the child was under the influence of drugs. During our investigation, we contacted OC Matiur Rahman of Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station. He denied the viral claim and said the 13-year-old child is not Hindu but Muslim. The victim being a minor, we are not revealing his identity details.
Therefore, the child in the viral video is not Hindu.
Our investigation into the Chapainawabganj incident in Bangladesh reveals that the child involved is not Hindu. The child was detained on charges of drug possession. The police were attempting to remove the child from the area during an NCP leader’s procession.
