Claim: Myanmar Air Force attacked on the Bangladesh border.
Fact: The viral video is not of an attack on the border, but of an accident in Myanmar.

A video has recently gone viral claiming that the Myanmar Air Force launched an attack on Bangladesh’s Teknaf border. In the viral video, a plume of black smoke can be seen rising from a fire. It is claimed that this was caused by an airstrike by the Myanmar Air Force. See the videos here, here, and here.

Newschecker’s verification found the claim to be false.

Fact-Check/Verification

To verify the authenticity of the viral video claiming an air strike by the Myanmar Air Force on Bangladesh’s Teknaf border, we initially conducted a video keyframe search.

In our search, we found a similar video on Facebook published on April 21st.

From the video’s caption, it was learned that the incident was a motorboat fire at the Homalin port in Myanmar.

Furthermore, by conducting keyword and reverse image searches, we found several other videos of the same incident. See here & here.

Mainstream reports revealed that last April, explosions occurred in 10 fuel tankers at the port of Homalin on Myanmar’s important Chindwin River.

Therefore, the viral video is not an incident of a Myanmar attack on the Bangladesh border.

Conclusion

Thus, the viral video claiming a Myanmar Air Force air strike on the Teknaf border of Bangladesh is actually a video of an accident at Homalin port. Hence, the viral claim is false.
