Claim: Radical Hindus in India are playing trumpets inside a mosque.
Fact: The viral video is not from West Bengal; it is from a shrine (Mazar) in Bangladesh.
Recently, a video went viral on TikTok and other social media platforms claiming that radical Hindus in India are disrupting Muslim prayers by playing music (trumpets) inside a mosque. In the video, a person is seen praying while a young man stands directly behind him playing a trumpet. The video further claims that following the victory of BJP’s Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in the recent Kolkata elections, Muslims are facing such extremist behaviour during his tenure. Notably, Suvendu Adhikari took the oath as Chief Minister on May 9, following the release of election results on May 4. View the videos here, here, here, and here.
Newschecker has investigated and found the claim to be false.
To verify the truth behind the viral video claiming that radical Indian Hindus are obstructing prayers in a mosque by playing music, we initially conducted a key-frame search. During our investigation, we found a video similar to the viral one on a YouTube account named ‘Gachchi Shahi Darbar Sharif.’ See it here. According to the video description, it was uploaded on June 20, 2025.
This means the incident occurred before the BJP’s victory in the West Bengal elections.
Furthermore, information on Gachchi Shahi Darbar Sharif indicates that it is located in Raozan, Chattogram, not in Kolkata or West Bengal. Several videos of the same nature can be found on this YouTube account. From these videos, it is evident that playing musical instruments is a tradition or ritual of this Sufi shrine.
Therefore, the claim of Muslims being persecuted while praying at the hands of radical Hindus in India is not true.
The claim that radical Hindus disrupted Muslim prayers in a Kolkata mosque by playing music is false. Moreover, the viral video predates Suvendu Adhikari’s swearing-in as Chief Minister.
