Fact Check: Did South Superstar Vijay Convert To Islam? Know The Truth Behind The Viral Claim

A video has recently gone viral with the claim that the south Indian superstar & chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party, Thalapaty Vijay has accepted Islam and was spotted at an Iftar Party. In the video you can see Vijay wearing a skull- cap and sitting with other Muslims in a gathering. See the posts here, here, here and here. 

Newschecker verified and found the claim to be false.

Fact

An internet search using the terms “Actor Thalapathy Vijay Ramadan, Prayer, Religion Islam” led to a report published on the Daily Siasat website on March 9th. The report revealed that Thalapathy Vijay, the head of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, organized a special Iftar party in Chennai for Ramadan. The South Indian superstar, despite being a Christian, attended the Iftar party, as confirmed by multiple reports. See the reports here, here and here. 

Further investigation revealed that Thalapathy Vijay’s father is Christian and his mother is Hindu. News Checker contacted the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party for further investigation. The party’s Deputy General Secretary, CTR Nirmal Kumar, clearly stated, “The news of Thalapathy Vijay’s religious conversion is false. He is a Christian. He only participated in the party’s Iftar party.”

Therefore, it is clear that Thalapathy Vijay remains a Christian and has not converted to Islam, despite claims to the contrary. He did, however, participate in his party’s Iftar party during Ramadan.
