Fact

With reverse image search of the keyframes obtained from the viral video led to a video titled ‘Attack on MP’s house in Shariatpur’ published on August 6, 2024, on the YouTube channel of the online news portal Rising BD.com. See the video here

Subsequently, another video of the same incident was found on the YouTube channel of STV News Portal. The description of that video, published on August 5, 2024, mentioned that it was a scene of vandalism at the house of former Shariatpur Member of Parliament Iqbal Hossain Opu.

Our further investigation revealed that another report published in the media at that time stated that on August 5, 2024, around 3 PM, hundreds of protesters gathered in the Rishipara area of the district town on the Shariatpur-Dhaka road. They attacked and vandalised the residence of Shariatpur-1 Member of Parliament Iqbal Hossain Opu. At one point, his house was set on fire.

That is, the circulated video is not of an arson incident at an NCP leader’s house.

Therefore, the video of the arson attack on the house of former Member of Parliament Iqbal Hossain Opu on August 5, 2024, is being circulated with the false claim that it shows an arson attack on the house of an NCP leader in Shariatpur.
