Claim
Recently, a video has been widely circulated on social media, claiming that the army recovered illegal weapons from the house of Munna, the current NCP leader and former Shibir cadre, in Cumilla.
See the posts promoting this claim here and here.
Fact
Upon verifying the authenticity of the matter, it was found that the logo of the mainstream electronic media outlet News24 is visible in the video. Following the lead from the logo, a search on News24’s YouTube channel revealed a video published on April 15, which completely matches the video circulated with the discussed claim.
Following this lead and using relevant keywords, a report titled “Arms Recovered in Joint Forces Operation in Cumilla” was found on the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) website, published on April 15. The report states that in the early hours of April 14, at around 3 AM, illegal firearms and sharp weapons were recovered from the house of Awami League leader Omar Faruk Munna in the Araiura area of Sadar Upazila during a joint forces operation.
Furthermore, on April 17, Daily Janakantha quoted RAB-11 Commander Lieutenant Commander Mahmudul Hasan, stating that Omar Faruk Munna is an Awami League leader. This confirms that he is not a leader of the National Citizens Party (NCP).
Therefore, the video of arms recovery from the house of Awami League leader Omar Faruk Munna in Cumilla has been promoted with the false claim that it is a scene of arms recovery from the house of National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Munna; this is completely false.
