Fact check/Verification

Newschecker-Bangladesh investigated the claim. A Google reverse image and keyword search found that the news report used in the viral post was published in 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The news report was about the postponement of all elections, including the ongoing Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) elections.

The report can be found here: Boishakhi TV

Amid criticisms, the Election Commission (EC) suspended a total of 80 elections, including the Chittagong City Corporation elections, parliamentary by-elections, and elections at various other levels, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the viral video, it is seen that “the election has been suspended,” as informed by EC’s Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath.

A keyword search revealed that EC’s Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath informed the media that the Returning Officer had suspended the elections of the Naogaon-2 constituency due to the death of independent candidate Aminul Haque.
