Fact

To verify the authenticity of the viral claim  a keyword search led to a report published on January 13 in the Bengali version of the international media outlet BBC, titled Communication between the military leadership of Delhi and Dhaka during the August power transition.

During the Indian Army’s annual press conference in Delhi on January 13th, General Dwivedi addressed inquiries regarding Bangladesh’s uprising. He acknowledged a longstanding close relationship with Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker Uz Zaman, extending back to the time of the movement and continuing through the power transition. The report also highlighted that General Dwivedi stated at the press conference that high-ranking military officials from both countries coordinated the process of the former Bangladeshi Prime Minister’s departure from the country. However, he did not provide any direct information regarding these viral assertions.

Subsequently, the full video of the press conference, which was broadcast live on January 13, was found on the YouTube channel of the Indian media outlet The Print.

Upon reviewing the video of the press conference, it was observed that Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi did not make any comments regarding the claims in question. In other words, these baseless claims related to the Bangladesh Army have been circulated by attributing it to the Indian army chief.

Therefore, the information being circulated that Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi stated, “Sheikh Hasina has not resigned; she is still the legitimate Prime Minister of Bangladesh,” is completely unfounded and false.

Result: False
