A video of an earthquake is going viral on social media, where it is claimed that the incident is from the recent 8.7 magnitude earthquake in Russia. Watch the video here.
Newschecker has verified and found the claim to be false.
Fact
To verify the authenticity of the viral video claiming to be from the Russia earthquake, we initially conducted a reverse image search.
During the investigation, we found a post with the same video from March 2025. See the post here. The video titled ‘Myanmar Earthquake’ was uploaded on March 30, 2025.
Further relevant keyword searches revealed that the incident shown in the footage was actually the earthquake that occurred in Myanmar in March this year. A report featuring the same video was found in a Daily Mail YouTube video titled “Terrifying Moment Myanmar Earthquake hits shops, sends shelves flying,” published on March 31, 2025. See here.
However,an 8.8 magnitude earthquake occurred on July 30 in the eastern coastal region of Russia. Reported by Prothom Alo and BBC.
In other words, the viral video does not show the recent earthquake in Russia.
