On a keyword search, we found a report in the Indian media ABP Live regarding the death of Mohammad Shehzad’s mother, published on December 24, 2020. The report carries a condolence message from the official page of Afghan cricketer Rashid Khan.
On running another keyword search in English and Pashto on Facebook, Newschecker found similar posts on the official Facebook page of Afghan national cricketers Mohammad Nabi, Samiullah Shinwari, and Mirwais Ashraf, mourning the death of Mohammad Shehzad’s mother.
The news regarding Mohammad Shehzad’s mother’s death = was also found in a tweet published on December 23, 2020, on the Twitter account of Ariana News, an Afghan-based media outlet.
Conclusion
The mother of Afghan cricketer Mohammad Shehzad died in December 2020, not during the 2021 T20 World Cup.
