Claim
Recently, a video of a Muslim person praying in front of an idol at a Puja mandap has been circulated on social media, particularly on Facebook, with the claim that “the Jamaat has now started performing Puja after breaking idols.” See the post with such claims here.
Fact
Through a keyframe reverse image search from the video, a news report published on October 11 in the Assamese language was found on a YouTube channel named Reporter Axom. See here.
Translating the title of the video reveals that a Muslim religious leader, named Mustafa Kamal Azhari, is kneeling at the feet of Goddess Durga.
Later, searching for that name on Facebook leads to a profile under Mustafa Kamal Azhari, where the original video published on October 11 can be found. The caption reads, “O Mother of the Earth.. bless and empower us. Victory to Mother Durga.”
Moreover, we also found the same video on a Facebook reel and a Facebook post. See here & here.
It is worth noting that a news report on this matter was also published by the Assam-based media outlet Reporter NE.
Noteworthy is the fact that Reporter NE, a media outlet based in Assam, also published a news report regarding this issue.
This means that the video is not from Bangladesh, and the individual in the video is also not Bangladeshi.
Therefore, the video of a Muslim person praying in front of an idol at a mandap in India has been falsely circulated as a video from Bangladesh.
