Claim- BNP sent out a notice with WhatsApp numbers to dispatch videos of violence on BNP leaders during the polls
Fact- The proclamation is edited and has nothing to do with the party, said BNP
Recently, an announcement using the official letterhead of the BNP has spread on social media. The content of the statement claimed that many BNP activists, who went to protest against the government of Hasina, fell victim to violence. Mr. Tarek Rahman has instructed to send photos or videos of such incidents to a specific WhatsApp number mentioned. It is noteworthy that the viral letterhead bore the signature of BNP’s Joint Secretary-General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Watch the video here, here, here, and here.
Newschecker-Bangladesh has verified the claims as false.
Our thorough search for the rumored BNP manifesto, encompassing a Google keyword search and meticulous examination of all official BNP social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, website, and media cell), proved fruitless. No trace of the manifesto was found on any of these platforms. Further solidifying this, an official press release, signed and confirmed by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi uploaded on BNP’s Facebook page explicitly labels the circulating document as a forgery.
Therefore, the viral manifesto with the official letterhead of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party is an edited piece of misinformation.
