Fact Check: Misleading Post On Suspension Goes Viral On The Namesake Of Harun-Or-Rashid

Claim: Harun-or-Rashid, head of DB, has been suspended.
Fact: Harun-or-Rashid was an additional deputy commissioner of police, not the head of DB.

DB chief Harun-Or Rashid has lost his job just like Benjir Ahmed, former IGP. This claim has gone viral on TikTok in the last few days. The video claims that the DIG and head of DB have been suspended over corruption allegations. The Ministry of Home Affairs has circulated a notice already regarding that. see the ss of the viral post below-

News Checker-Bangladesh verified the claim as false.
Fact check/Verification

We tried a Google keyword search to check the viral information about the DB chief’s suspension, and it led us to several mainstream media reports like  Prothom Alo, Bangla Tribune, and The Daily Star Bangla.

According to these reports, in response to the alleged assault on three Chhatra League leaders last year, the Ministry of Home Affairs temporarily suspended Additional Commissioner of Police Harun-or-Rashid. On September 11, 2023, the Ministry issued an official notice announcing this decision.

Notably, two central leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Anwar Hossain Naim, and Sharif Ahmed Munim, were brought to Shahbagh Police Station and allegedly tortured by a group of police officers at the direction of ADC Harun.

Coincidentally, both the police officers- the suspended Additional Commissioner of Police and DB chief have the same name Harun-Or-Rashid which triggered the rumour.

Conclusion

Therefore, the suspended police officer, Harun-Or-Rashid, is not the head of the Detective department. He was the  ADC of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Result: False
