Viral social media posts and videos claim Tamim Iqbal will play in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Some claim he’ll play at Shakib Al Hasan’s request, while others say he’ll play on the Prime Minister’s instructions. Multiple videos with these claims have gone viral. See the videos here:

Fact check/Verification

Upon conducting a Google keyword search to verifythe news regarding Tamim Iqbal’s participation in the current edition of the T20 World Cup, we have foundthat Tamim Iqbal had already announced his retirement from the T20 format in 2022.

After retiring from the T20 format in 2022, he said that he would focus on ODIs and Tests.

However, in June 2023, Tamim Iqbal retired from all forms of international cricket. ProthomAlo, ESPNcricinfo.

 This decision shocked everyone three months before the ODI World Cup.

However, the drama surrounding Tamim’s retirement didn’t end there. On July 6, after retiring from international cricket, he met with the Prime Minister on the 7th. After the meeting, Tamim Iqbal withdrew his retirement and promised to play in the World Cup, but it didn’t happen.
