Claim– Salman Shah’s ex-wife, Samira Haque, has been arrested.
Fact- A video of police arresting two women in connection with a social media obscene video racket is falsely circulated as Samira Haque’s arrest.

The death of popular actor Salman Shah on September 6, 1996, has been a subject of long-standing dispute. While his ex-wife, Samira Haque, has consistently maintained that it was a suicide, a murder case was recently accepted by police nearly three decades later, following court orders. Consequently, Salman Shah’s maternal uncle, Alamgir Kumkum, filed the murder case at Ramna police station on the night of October 20. Following this development, a video began circulating on social media, falsely claiming that Samira Haque had been arrested by the police. View such a post here.

Newschecker-Bangladesh has verified that this claim is false.

Fact-Check/Verification

A keyframe reverse image search of the viral video led to a video published on May 1, 2025, by Desh TV on YouTube. The 1 minute 49 seconds long video’s scenes match the circulated video, which contained the false claim.

The video description revealed that the police arrested two female members of a ‘pornography ring’, involved in spreading obscene videos, from the Bashundhara area.

Further investigation using relevant keywords uncovered a report from 1 May on the NTV online website, which contained the same information.

Separately, to confirm if Samira Haque had been recently arrested, a media search on 28 October found a report on the national daily Ittefaq’s website. This report stated that Samira Haque, the main accused in the Salman Shah murder case, appeared before the High Court that day to apply for anticipatory bail. Her current husband, Ishtiaq Ahmed, accompanied her and spoke with several senior lawyers.

Also, no information or evidence of Samira Haque’s recent arrest is available from any local news media or credible sources.

Conclusion

The circulated video, which falsely claimed to show the arrest of Samira Haque (the main suspect in the Salman Shah murder case), is entirely misleading. The footage is actually from an old, unrelated event.
