Fact

A reverse image search using keyframes from the video was conducted to verify the claim’s authenticity. This search led to a similar image found in a report published on BDNews24’s website on May 2, 2023, confirming the claim.

The report reveals that the image is actually a still from an interview with Voice of America Bangla. The interview was conducted during the same period.

Following this lead, the original video published by Voice of America’s official Facebook page on May 1, 2023, was found. In this interview, Sheikh Hasina discusses various issues such as U.S. sanctions on senior officials of Bangladesh’s law enforcement agency RAB, the Digital Security Act, the Rohingya crisis, and Smart Bangladesh.

However, in the viral video, Sheikh Hasina is heard saying that if she had not left the country on August 5, she would not have survived at the hands of the student masses. In the audio, she also refers to herself as a “killer” and a “demon” in connection with the student protests. These statements do not align with the original Voice of America Bangla video, nor is there any evidence that she made such remarks recently. It is noteworthy that while she has participated in several party audio calls recently, she has not given any public speeches via video calls.

Additionally, the video contains several inconsistencies, prompting further verification by the Deepfake Analysis Unit (DAU). The analysis showed that the Hive AI video detector identified signs of AI manipulation in multiple segments of the video.

However, the Audio Detector identified about half of the 4-minute clip (~100 seconds) as “Not AI.” The Hiya tool’s test labelled the audio track as partially or fully AI-generated. Based on the results, it is clear that the video and audio were altered through AI and editing.

Therefore, the video claiming to show Sheikh Hasina’s speech to the student masses is not true, but rather an AI-generated and edited fabrication.

Result: Altered Video
